EMF India is a not-for-profit organization registered under the Societies’ Registration Act of 1860. EMF India is committed to enhancing the quality of life for disadvantaged older persons. The organization envisions a society where the elderly enjoy the right to an active, healthy, and dignified life. In recognition of its outstanding contributions to the field of ageing and its efforts in advocating for the rights of older persons in India.
With an estimated 138 million elderly in India, EMF India serves as a powerful voice for their concerns, ensuring they lead secure and dignified lives. The organization operates through 26 state offices across India, implementing numerous on-ground programs that address elder needs and advocate for their rights. These initiatives include the right to universal pension, quality healthcare, and action against elder abuse, among others. EMF India collaborates with both central and state governments to advocate for and implement elder-friendly policies.
The organization’s programs focus on direct interventions in several key areas:
- Healthcare: Providing mobile healthcare units and conducting cataract surgeries.
- Age-care: Offering helplines, senior citizen care homes, daycare centres, and physiotherapy services.
- Livelihoods: Forming elder self-help groups and creating linkages with government schemes.
- Disaster Response: Engaging in relief efforts during natural disasters.
- Advocacy and Awareness: Promoting rights and policies related to elders.
